Don’t Mix Unsafe Cosmetics And Teenage Girls
You might be unaware that there are dangerous ingredients in many big brand name cosmetics, and a new study is showing that this might be affecting teenage girls.
Our big brand cosmetics can be loaded with ingredients that aren’t safe and we ought not put on our skin. A recent study, for example, showed there was lead in over 50% of lipsticks tested.
Isn’t lead really dangerous? Yes it is and it shouldn’t be in our lipsticks, but the FDA doesn’t regulate it so it’s there. And it’s the same with skin care products and anti aging products and personal and body care and beauty products too.
And yet for those of us using cosmetics we are putting them into our systems just as if they were drugs. When you apply a cosmetic product like a lipstick or a blush our a rouge some of that products ends up inside of us.
That’s because our skin is porous and what we put onto it soaks in and ends up in our bodies rather than just on our skin. Moisturizers, for example, are rubbed in a disappear. Where do they go but into our system? Ok if they are harmless, but what if they’re not?
And now a new study has begun to ask whether our teenage daughters should be using some cosmetics. The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics tells us the results of the study.
“Laboratory tests reveal adolescent girls across America are contaminated with chemicals commonly used in cosmetics and body care products.”
Now isn’t that scary? And it’s worse than you’d imagine, and if you’re a parent of teenage girls who use cosmetics, (and which girls don’t) it’s really scary.
And now there’s a study by the Environmental Working Group which found suspect chemicals (phthalates, parabens, triclosan and musks) in the urine of young girls from 14 to 20 who took part in the study.
Some of these were found in the body of every single girls tested in the study.
Now of course a teenage girl is growing fast and dealing with hormonal changes and they don’t need to be adding toxic chemicals to their bodies.
These chemicals are considered to be capable of altering hormones, and so I wonder how many teenage girls using cosmetics and skin care products and possibly acne products know that they are taking a risk with their hormones at this time.
No one knows what the implications are but it’s an area of reproductive health that we shouldn’t be playing with.
If there are risks to our kids using dangerous cosmetics or skin care products or others then they shouldn’t be using them.
That’s a matter of concern for parents and girls, but there are alternatives. There are excellent companies making safe cosmetics and safe skin care products that work very well indeed and don’t contain dangerous ingredients. So no risks to our daughters.
But these niche companies are very small, and can’t compete with the big brand names on marketing, so you won’t see their ads on TV or their products on the shelves of your local store.
But if you search you can find small companies making excellent and safe cosmetics and also safe natural skin care products that are extremely good, and better quality than the big brands.
So don’t play Russian Roulette with your daughters health. Find some top shelf natural cosmetics and natural skin care products that don’t contain dangerous chemicals.
